If anyone called out "Sundar!" (his name means beautiful in Hindi), he'd always reply - "Athi-Sundar", which essentially meant 'beyond beautiful.' In dedication to him, and what he started as a little girl's love for books, giving me my first books saying "this is for your library", the Athi-Sundar Library Project is dedicated to my dad. It's been over 4 years since he's been gone, but his memory keeps me striving to do more - and I know he'd be proud of where The Ashoka Tree is today and the projects we have. This particular project is something that means much more than people will ever know. What began as a single book from my #Dad is now a whole community #library being built everywhere, across the country. The “Athi-Sundar Library” Project is something that’s always going to be special for all of us here at #TheAshokaTree - because we know that the first page is an entry to a whole new world, where great things can happen both in your mind and in the real world. Sweet dreams are made of these. Thank you to everyone who’s helped make this a reality. A first in the beginning of many. #earlychildhoodeducation #reading #bettertogether #tomorrow

So much to be worried about, and yet - so much to smile about too!
Let’s look at the brighter side of life - count our blessings - learn to be grateful for every extra day, every extra person we meet, every extra smile. May this #holi bring you joy and happiness in abundance & the goodwill to be kinder to everyone you meet today & every day moving on. #HappyHoli2022 #Smile#BecauseYoureWorthIt #TheAshokaTree Getting children back to school (at a time when children in India below 15 remain unvaccinated) is one thing - helping them stay there is quite another.
Attention spans are low, and parental anxiety (not to mention children’s) at an all-time high. Get in touch with us if you’d like to #volunteer helping #children stay interested in learning. It’s just an hour a week to educate another. #EarlyChildhoodEducation #NGO#VolunteerIndia #orissa #maharashtra #kerala #TamilNadu #Karnataka It’s #WomensDay #everyday.
But, on special days that talk of those among us who inspire, today’s the day we recognise “J. Chitra” who works tirelessly with her community, whether it’s ensuring the #narikuravar children get to school with a new bus route or ensuring they stay in school - she keeps us believing in better. May we all strive to be women who inspire - women who hold each other up in the highest regard - women who dare to be who we’re meant to be. #HappyWomensDay #womensday2022
It’s time to move on, beyond the pandemic and quarantine. Continuing with our work with the #narikuravar community, we’re working on #MenstrualHealth #Hygiene & awareness. Donating #biodegradable sanitary napkins and conducting sessions on personal hygiene - join us as we work with this community towards better health and brighter days. #donate One box costs just Rs 80/-. Your contribution today keeps her healthier tomorrow. #GetInvolved #ContactUs Our first mid-day meal at pre-schools ( nearly 2 years after they were shut because of the #pandemic).
May the joy of building human relationships and the fun of learning continue to grow as we head back to #normal this year! #restart #earlyChildhoodEducation #reopenschools #2022 If you’re reading this, you’ve probably had access to books and a library growing up.
You’ve been lucky. Getting books across to children is easier said than done - do you have books you’re done reading ? Books that nobody wants and tend to stay in a dusty pile? Books your children no longer look at? #donate get them across to us so we can share them with children who want to read #bookstagram #BookRecommendations #ChildrensBooks Make every day #NationalGirlChildDay - let her laugh, let her run, let her read, let her play - let her live! #EveryGirl #EveryDream
What happens when every meal feels like a luxury?
Monthly rations are not as easy to come by for the best of us today - get in touch if you’d like to help provide groceries for just one family or even one child. #EveryChildMatters#eathealthy #MealPrep #UnseenIndia #NGOs The first week of 2022, and we've begun with ICDS teacher's training across South India. As the pandemic keeps raging on, and schools look at staying shut for yet another month, The Ashoka Tree continues to work, beginning the year with training sessions across various platforms. This is how we roll! |
