She's literally living one moment at a time, facing a rather bleak future. Potentially losing her home, her auto-driver husband's daily earning is spent on everyday essentials. Fees for her children can barely be paid, leaving her no option but to look at having her daughter quit college. In spite of it all, there's not a day you don't see her smile when she comes to work as a helper at our anganwadi.
Note: Her daughter's term fees cost as much as a meal at a five-star restaurant. Watching her teaches us so much more than anything else. It's not how big a life you live, but how well you live it! It's not your smile on your profile picture that counts, but the smiles you spread every day that do. "History will judge us by the difference we make in the everyday lives of children." - Nelson Mandela.
What are you doing to make a difference today? #volunteer #donate #theashokatree #ngo Puppetry always gets children's imagination and attention - whether it's 'Punch and Judy' or just your average cardboard/ice-cream stick puppets.
Children are great imitators - give them something great to imitate. Let every child you meet today see something inspirational in you to imitate tomorrow. Meenukutty and her family of puppets were made by our anganwadi teacher, as an improvisation because she doesn't have a fancy set for her children. #Inspiration #puppetry #SomethingIsBetterThanNothing "Play" is often talked about as if it were a relief from stress & serious learning. What we don't realise is that, for children, play "is" serious learning.
The Ashoka Tree would like to thank @Bamboola Playschool, Chennai, for their contribution of toys. All our children here can express themselves better today because of you! #playtherapy # donate #children You're never too young to make a change.
All it takes is a little bit of courage and some talent. All of us at The Ashoka Tree are proud of Sreehari Rajesh, our once little (now 13-year-old), from anganwadi no. 70 for his fantastic work creating a short film raising awareness in children of drug abuse and smoking. #puka-thekillingsmoke #YoungGeniuses https://buff.ly/2HKFpga |
